Many believe that main keywords are the only keywords they should include in their content for it to rank. Do you believe the same thing?
If you think you know SEO very well, wait until you discover LSI keywords. What are LSI keywords and how do they dramatically improve your content’s performance on SERPs?
Read this guide to find out.

What are LSI Keywords?
LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing is a fancy term for keywords that are related to your main keywords.
Instead of using main keywords, the addition of LSI makes your content sound more “natural.” Google is smart enough to detect that someone is stuffing his content with main keywords.
Stuffing is an absolute and black hat technique.
At the same time, Google also appreciates content that is written naturally while targeting the needs and interests of its target readers.
Most often than not, to force the inclusion of main keywords will only make your piece sound stale.
These LSI keywords help improve your search visibility since Google prioritizes providing relevance and context to humans.
Benefits of Using LSI
1. Increase reader engagement
People searching and reading online information do not have the time to linger on a page.
I think all marketers who are serious enough to increase engagement invest a ton of time and effort into making their content as compelling as possible.
Sprinkle LSI keywords throughout your piece and your readers will be able to better retain your information.
You don’t need to strategically plan how to incorporate these important terms. Most of them are comprised of phrases. They make sentences easily read and understood.
2. Higher rankings
As mentioned earlier, these keywords enhance the search engine visibility of your content.
The reason is that they boost the meaning of your main keywords while avoiding keyword stuffing. They prevent you from getting penalized, keeping your website safe.
3. Reduced bounce rate
For a moment, imagine that you are looking for an article on how to choose a fishing rod.
You come across a blog post entitled, “Tips to Select the Best Fishing Rod.” However, as you read the piece, you notice that the bulk of the content doesn’t actually talk about choosing fishing rods.
Because you didn’t really find what you were looking for in a few seconds, your next move would be to leave the page and look for a better resource.
How to Find LSI Keywords
Now that you know how these search terms can effectively expand your content, prevent penalties, and engage your readers better, here are the ways you can discover LSI.
1. Search suggestions on Google
One of the simplest ways for you to look for these keywords is to use Google search suggestions. It’s quick and convenient.
All you need to do is type your search term of choice into Google.
Notice that as you complete your main search term, Google automatically suggests related phrases. Take note of these LSI terms and include those you see fit into your content.
Using the same search term above which is “feeding tips for babies,” scroll to the bottom of search results. You will see “searches related to feeding tips for babies.”
Each of these related search terms is an LSI keyword:
Again, add these to your LSI arsenal but choose only the ones you find relevant and that make sense for your content.
Even without the use of keyword research tools, this method is extremely convenient for anyone.
3. Keyword Shitter
Generate hundreds of LSI phrases in seconds with Keyword Shitter. This tool gives you keywords in bulk based on your query.
Another advantage of Keyword Shitter is that it allows you to set positive and negative filters. You’ll be able to include and exclude certain keywords to better refine your search.
The second free LSI keyword research tool I would like to recommend is Ubersuggest. It takes all its keyword suggestions from Google’s autocomplete data.
Once you’ve researched your main keywords using Google Keyword Planner, enter these keywords into Ubersuggest and click suggest.
I personally find Ubersuggest very useful since it gives me the option to choose where to source the LSI keywords. There are 4 possible choices: Web, Images, Shopping, YouTube, and News.
Note that the LSI results will vary based on your choice.
Users can also select a specific country. To get all the keywords without manually copying them, simply download everything as a CSV file.
5. LSI Graph
Here’s the third simple and straightforward tool dedicated to helping you generate LSI keywords in one click: LSI Graph.
This tool’s interface is clean. Just type your main keyword into LSI Graph’s box and click GENERATE.
As you can see in the screenshot above, I’ve entered the main search term “fitness meal plan.”
Beneath the LSI keyword results, the tool gives a very useful explanation of LSI keywords for new users.
In addition to using it for getting LSI terms, it can also be utilized to understand your market better.
Where to Include LSI Keywords
It is a good practice to naturally sprinkle your LSI search terms all over your content.
But to maximize their potential to increase your search ranking, include them in specific areas. These are your:
- Tite tags
- Meta descriptions
- Header tags
- Anchor texts
- Beginning and last paragraphs of your article
- Image alt text
- Body of content
Never stuff a piece of content with LSI keywords. Using the same phrase more than once will only make it sound very unnatural.
Google will already understand the main context of your article because of these LSIs.
Let’s say you’re writing a blog post about ketogenic diet. The LSI keywords for the main keyword “ketogenic diet” would be anything related to it. Not necessarily synonyms.
Terms you’d want to include are ketogenic diet guidelines, keto diet food list, ketogenic diet weight loss, and more.
Remember that Google hates keyword stuffing and has become much smarter in terms of understanding web content.
LSI search terms will help you climb to the top of search results and attract more conversions.
Use the LSI keyword research tools and strategies in this post to simplify the process of finding the right terms. Good luck!
